Monsoon Season In Goa – What Places Are Still Open?

Places to Visit in Goa During Monsoon Season

Beauty Of Goa

You might be thinking at this point, I have read all about Goa and it just seems like a place of beaches and sun activities.

Why would anyone ever want to go there in the monsoon? What could you do in Goa while it’s drenched? Well you’re going to be surprised as Goa in the monsoon is completely different, but it definitely doesn’t disappoint.

In fact you might find it is the experience you’re looking for. It’s cheaper in the off season and the drop in tourism will make it easier to find some seclusion compared to the usual buzzy Goa. You don’t have to just relax though there is still plenty to do in Goa even when is pouring.

Spice plantations

Looking to expand your knowledge of food a little?

Spices, Mapusa market, Goa, India

Well then Goas splice plantations are perfect. Sure you can do this anytime of year but the monsoon is the best time of year. The plantations explode during the monsoon with green, lush plants. For a small fee you take a tour around one of Goas fantastic spice plantations learning about all the different spices and how they are grown.

Afterwards take rest and rejuvenate at the local restaurant. You’ll be treated with delicious, traditional goa delicacies and dishes. It’s a great chance to get a feel for how the spice works with the meal to deliver a flavour like none other.
Tropical jungle

Wildlife Sanctuaries

Speaking of plants, One of the main difference between Goa and Goa in the monsoon is how alive the nature comes. And if you’re looking for a place to go see some then wildlife sanctuaries are a great place to check out is Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary. Ranging about 208km2 You can for adventure exploring all the little critters who live here.

There are plenty of colorful frogs, complicated butterflies and elegant birds. If you’re lucky you might see more than the “regular” wildlife.

In fact it’s soon to be a part of Project Tiger Reserve, so don’t get to close because you might risk hurting these delicate creatures. Or maybe you’re risking them hurting you. Either way its sure to be a great experience.

The Dudhsagar Falls

With all the rain the streams and rivers are flowing at mass capacity. And where’s the best place to see water flowing like crazy? Well at a waterfall of course, and to name a good one The Dudhsagar Falls are sure to be a sight to behold in the middle of monsoon season.

Standing a massive 301 meters tall with silky, white water pouring down only to be fueled by canals that have been carved out by the rain over millions of years. There’s a beautiful old rail bridge you can check out and the place is surrounded by dense, lush foliage.

You get here the easy way and catch a bus, but why not put those legs to work and choose your own path. There are 4 different tracks you can trek along to get here. Each will take you through beautiful jungle and stunning landscapes. Make sure you take some water though because you won’t find a convenient store on your way up.

Soa Joao Fertility Feast

Some people think that the party in Goa ends with the start of the monsoon. Maybe all the “get drunk with other tourist” parties have ended but don’t look past the locals they still know how to throw a rocking shindig.

Every year during the monsoon the locals of Goa throw a Fertility Feast of Saint John the Baptist. If you’re not religious don’t worry you will still have a fantastic time here. It filled with color, flowers, men jumping down wells and people floating down the river on a raft while they sing and dance their troubles away. Not too mention the feast!

The Top Honeymoon Spots In Goa

Places to Visit in Goa on a Honeymoon

Honeymoon Couple Visiting Goa India

Some say Paris is known for being the city love, but who ever said it’s the only One. If you’re looking to take your recently, wedded partner on a love journey, then Goa is a great place to celebrate!

You will be able to find yourself a little love kingdom. Take your lover to some beautiful view or why not take them on a little water voyage. Here are some places that honeymooners will love.

Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa

Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa

Before you and your new soul mate get down to “business”, then you’re going to need to talk to one first.

Specifically, one that will give you a bed as comfortable as a cloud and treat you as if you were royalty.

And specifically I’m talking about the Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa. With 5-star accommodation and being only 15 minutes from the Dublin airport this is great place to spend your first night of a new life. This place has everything you need to just relax and spend time with each other.

Spend your day relaxing around their incredible pool, don’t worry about finding a spot because it is massive. If you would prefer something a bit more natural then take a stroll through its lush, green gardens or check out their glistening blue lagoon.

When the afternoon comes around why not take your partner for a romantic stroll along the beach while the sun is setting over sea. Park Hyatt Goa Resort is located between Arossim and Utroda beach.

Though you might have a little walk to get there as the resort itself is back a bit from the beach, still nothing too far, and if you have company it will fly by.

It gets better though! Planning a wedding is normally a mess of stress. Afterwards you might need some way to release that stress and while a holiday has that effect it’s even better when you’re getting pampered. Park Hyatt Goa Resort has an award winning spa where you can get yourself a massage and just rejuvenate.

Dona Paula Beach

So you’ve been out and seen the beach a few times now, it’s great but you wouldn’t mind switching it up a little. Goas full of some great beaches but there isn’t one that speaks more for a romantic night then Dona Paula beach.

It’s probably not the best beach for swimming but it has pier you and your partner can stroll down to watch the ocean. But what really sets this beach apart from the others is its’ dark history. The beach was named after the daughter of a Portuguese viceroy, Paula Amaral Antonio.

After falling in love with a local Goan fisherman, but unfortunately the viceroy forbid their love and refused to let them see each other any longer.

Paula couldn’t tackle with a life without her lover so she threw her sell from a cliff and gave her life to the unforgiving sea. After the viceroy so the errors in his ways he erected a statue in honour of their love.

Instagram Photo

Cruises

But Goa isn’t all about fancy hotels and long stretches of beach. If you and your dearly beloved want on mix it up a little why not take them on a cruise? And I’m not talking about a cruise where you can’t get alone or just a dinner where you have to leave after.

If you make your way down to Palolem beach you can book your own private yacht for two nights. Picture it, you’re lying on the front of your boat cuddling your lover. A bottle of champagne is on ice and as you watch the sunset. Day turns to night and the stars have come out play all while the sea gently rocks you back and forth.

Palolem

So if you’re looking for somewhere romantic for then I wouldn’t look past Goa. It has everything you need fo ra good honeymoon. Hotels that will become your private castle, beaches that will melt your eyes and adventures where you can drift away into the world. It might be filled with parties and crazy nights but dig a little deeper and you will find it’s a romantic at heart.

It’s Night In Goa, What Places Should You Go See?

Night Time Adventures In Goa

If you’re a bit nocturnal, and like to spend your nights out and about, then Goa will not disappoint.

Places To See At Night In Goa

If you’re a bit of a party animal, then Goa is full of clubs and bars that will blow your mind. But not everyone likes to just go out and get trashed at expensive night clubs.

Luckily, if clubs aren’t your scene, Goa is also full of delicious cuisine and exciting restaurants. Just touring around the city at night can prove to be a whole new experience.

Bars and Clubs

So envision this, you’ve just got into Goa with your mates and you’ve decided to go out and have some drinks. “We’ll just find some clubs, dance around and have a few drinks”.

You have a quick look and the SinQ isn’t too far away. You’ve heard good things but surely it’s just like every other nightclub.

You arrive and think well it just looks like a hotel, surely this won’t be too crazy. But then you open the door only to be greeted by massive array of colours and a bassline that has now become your new heart beat. But wait what’s that? Is that a POOL!

No that isn’t the Absinth, the SinQ has a pool right next to the bar. And if you like it that much why not stay?

The SinQ has a total of 20 party suites and each room is set up to be your little alcoholic kingdom. The rooms are set up with colourful lights and a superb sound system. Forgot your music? Don’t worry the sound system is hooked directly to the Main DJ console in the club.

This place is built for parting; they even give you a free welcome drink. So whether you want to party all day, or just have an excellent night then I would recommend the SinQ.

If the SinQ just isn’t enough then maybe you should try Goa’ most renowned nightclub, Love Passion Karma or LPK for short.

Instagram Photo

The building itself is an architectural masterpiece. It’s hard to describe how it looks but it almost seems like it was carved out of a giant rock. It is full of hand carved statues of women, faces embedded in walls and a specially crafted dance floor. LPK will not only have you leaving without any motor skills but leave you in awe at its’ sheer beauty.

It’s situated right on the Nerul River which you can admire from the balcony while you sip on a fancy cocktail. Across the river is sign with the illuminated words Love Passion Karma that glistens over the water.

Dinner

If you’re not looking to party, then maybe you would be interested in sampling some of Goa’s fine cuisine.

Finding a restaurant in Goa is never too hard, simply go for a walk down the beach, and you will be overwhelmed with decisions. A very popular restaurant to try out is Thalassa, located right on Ozran Beach. It’s a Greek-style restaurant so you probably won’t find the best curry here. However, you will find shady palm trees you can sit under while enjoying a beautiful view of the ocean. If you’ve gotten sick of the ocean then don’t worry, Thalassa has some entertainment of its own. Filled with dancers and live music, if the food doesn’t please you then the atmosphere certainly will.

Stuffed Sardine, Thalassa, Goa

If you want to experience more of the local cuisine, then Spice Goa is perfect.

The venue doesn’t come with the same sort of view, but it is clean and well air conditioned, so you will still be comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive, so you won’t have to scream “waiter”  from across room. But what really sets Goa apart is its delicious food. Serving traditional Goan dishes it won’t be long till your table is packed with dishes. Seafood platter, after seafood platter each one only getting tastier then the last. Words can’t describe the quality of the food but if you love seafood then Spice Goa will be a little slice of heaven.

At the end of the day the best day to experience Goa at night is to just dive head first into it. Exploring the beach and the city at night will leave you full to the brim with food or beer. And if not then you will encounter plenty of fires and colorful lights to marvel in as you wander around the city. One thing is for certain, you’re guaranteed to have a fun time!

This restaurant is famous in Calangute. It offers European style cuisine and serves the best beverage menu in the place. You can also go to the Oriental Royal Thai Cuisine. As the name implies, it serves more than 50 Thai dishes and some typical continental food. It is also located in Calanguete. The chef of the restaurant is from Thailand. It is located in a heritage house in Majorda and conducts different art workshops and events.

But if you are more into history, you should go to Cabo Rama Fort. This fort is one of the oldest fort built even before the Portuguese era.

Some of the beaches you need to go during your holiday is the Galgibaga Beach. It is famous because of the turtles nesting in the area but swimming can be perilous especially to children.

Ashvem Beach is the place to go when you are with your family. The beach is peaceful and there are few shacks operating in the place. Since the beach is remote, there are no water sports available.

You and your partner won’t have any trouble finding some luxury dining while you’re in Goa but there is one restaurant that can’t be replicated. Venite is a little restaurant located in Panjim and while the restaurant has barely enough room to sit two its location is sure to impress.

The balcony overlooks a side lane near the Fontainhas. But if that’s not enough of a conversation starter then you will find plenty of material inside the restaurant itself.

4 Days In Goa – What Places Are A Must To Visit?

4 Day Schedule For Visiting Goa

Not all of us have the time to spend on traveling and vacations. If you’re running short on time you then here is a list of places you can visit to still get experience everything Goa has to offer.

Visiting The Sites And Culture In Goa

Day 1 Beaches

If you’re visiting Goa, no matter how long, you have to get onto the white sand and admire the rolling waves of Goa’s famous beaches. The beach is full of water sports, sun lounges, sunsets and more. You will also find plenty of accommodation and food along the beaches, so they are the best place to unwind from the beach. But which beaches should you visit?

Instagram Photo

Dona Paula beach is one though you might find it’s less for swimming and more for exploring. There is a jetty you can walk out on to watch the ocean and be amongst some of the local fisherman. It also has a tragic backstory about two lovers, I won’t go into the story but ask one of the locals and I’m sure they would be eager to fill you in.

Instagram Photo

Congulate beach is another popular one, being the largest beach in Goa it’s one you don’t want to miss. Here you will be able to do most your swimming and maybe even get involved in some of the crazy water activities such as parasailing. This beach is also very popular so you will find plenty of tourists here you can meet and have a chat too.

Right next to Congulate Beach is Baga Beach, this beach has a amazing sandbar just off the shore. You can get to it without getting wet as there is a bridge connecting the two.

It’s a great place to relax as the ocean engulfs your little sand island. It is also known for having one of the best sunsets out of Goa’s beaches, so save this one for the end of the day.

Day 2 Churches

On your second day take your chance to experience some of Goa’s famous churches. You might not be religious but whether you are or not the churches in Goa are still a must see before you leave. The building themselves are architectural masterpieces, they are filled with complex details and range from old decaying structures, to more pristine, pure white ones. There are three you should check out if you have the time.

Church of St. Francis of Assisi is one you can’t go pass. Upon entering this church your jaw will immediately drop to the floor. One thing the didn’t do while building this church is pay attention to detail. The walls have carving of temples and Jesus that are just as miraculous as the front of the building.

The next one you have to see while you have a chance is the Ballisca of Bom Jesus. This building is massive, so big in fact that when you step inside and look up at the incredibly high ceiling you will feel insignificant. And the shrine is incredible, I don’t think any words will do it justice the only thing I can say about it is you will not be disappointed.

Day 3 Forts

Now it’s time to experience some of Goa’s famous no religious buildings, namely some of the forts. These are everything you want in a for, span massive area surrounded by old, sturdy walls and filled with history.

One that I recommend checking out is for Aguada. This fort is huge but its biggest feature is the watch tower situated right next to the ocean. And I mean literally, the wall spans across the beach connecting the building directly with the waves.

Aguada fort-Goa

Who said forts need to be in one piece though, Fort Chhapora isn’t. This fort is a remnant of a time long ago. Nature has started growing through the brick work and over the walls. It’s a gorgeous building to see and shows that even the sturdiest things we build can be destroyed with time.

Day 4 Sanctuaries

By now you’ve done a lot of things and you’re a bit exhausted, maybe it’s time to do something a little more relaxed. You might need to keep your walking shoes on but the Mhadei Wild life sanctuary is a great place to unwind. You will find a whole range of wildlife here from colorful frogs to Vicious tigers. It’s a great chance to have a wander around and ponder your trip before you leave.

Cheaper Beach Cottages In Goa India

An Awesome Stay In Goa For An Awesome Price?

You want to stay in a gorgeous beach front cottage in beautiful Goa, but you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it? Budget beach cottages in Goa let you live it up on a traveler’s shoestring budget.

Great Beach Accommodation In Goa For Cheaper

India is one of the most romantic places on Earth. If you have ever read the book by famous Australian novelist Shantaram, he describes how when Indians love, they love properly. Nowhere is this more true than Goa.

Settled on the Arabian sea in the southwest of India. Goa is one of India’s richest states. While it is great to see the India known to the billions of people that live there, in Goa you are among the wealthy. What this means is that if you are traveling with a family, or you are a weary traveler, Goa is one of the safest places in India and it affords you the luxury of temporarily calling a cottage on the beach home.

Most of the beach huts are found in the south of Goa: Agonda, Palolem, and Patnem beaches. If you are looking for a little more privacy and a more authentic experience the less developed beaches in the north, like Arambol, can accommodate these requests.

Instagram Photo

A lot of budget travellers stay in the less developed, northern beaches to try and escape the rising cost of beach cottages in Goa. Some of the more popular destinations are priced the same as a hotel, but they don’t offer the same facilities. Part of the reason for this is that the huts have to be pulled down every year and rebuilt for the season – November to May -. That is not to say that they are unreasonably priced. It is like everything really; as it gets a little more popular the price increases. You just need to look around a little bit to find something in your budget.

The huts are built nearly entirely out of wood and constructed right on the sand. They have thatched roofs but don’t worry; they will keep the rain out. Facilities vary a lot depending on the cottage. The cottages tend to be a little bigger than the huts and some of them are permanent structures. This means that they will have private bathrooms and showers. They often have balconies where you can sit and watch the waves as they roll in. Some of the more basic cottages are perfect for budget travelers.

These budget beach cottages are typically one bedroom, and they will normally have a private bathroom. The beds are hard, and you will get sand everywhere, and I mean everywhere. But hey, that is all a part of the experience. Indians are a very proud people, and while the space might be small, it will never be dirty.  You might sacrifice some of your luxuries but isn’t that what it is all about. I promise you that if it all gets too much there are a million hotels that you can book yourself into.

OUR COTTAGE, Sterling Vagator Beach Resort, Vagator, Goa, India

Staying in a beach cottage is a great way to meet people. They are often built in rows along the beach and outfront there are sitting areas that you can enjoy. There will be travellers from all over the world. If they have chosen to come to India and stay in a beach hut chances are they are going to be fantastically interesting people. Make friends that you can travel with that aren’t afraid to rough it a little.

It might not seem like it at first but the beach cottages have great security. They are a little secluded, and the people that live around them understand that they depend on tourism for their livelihood. No one seems particularly worried about thieves, and this makes for a great atmosphere. Goa is one of the safest places in India, but most cottages also have 24/7 security, or they have taken other precautions to protect their guest and their belongings.

The features that some of these cottages offer really are amazing considering what they are. Wifi, airport transfer, restaurants and bars, express check in, laundry service. They really are like pop up hotels, and it makes for a unique experience that you won’t get anywhere else in the world.
